AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college readiness system designed to increase student achievement. Students learn organizational skills, study skills, improve critical thinking, and get academic help from peers and college tutors making college seem attainable. Students are selected and enrolled in an AVID class after an application process.
Students are placed in general education classes based on their FSA Math and FSA ELA test scores. Students must have a 3 or higher to be placed in advanced ELA, Reading, Science, or Social Studies courses. Math class placement is based on FSA Scale Scores.
CENTER FOR THE ARTS
Students learn and participate in a varaiety of arts including: Drama, Chorus, Band, Orchestra, Visual Arts, Culinary, Film and Music Production, Digital Design, Dance. Additionally, arts are integrated into the core curriculum content areas.
Students learn leadership development, teamwork and responsible patriotic citizenship. A strong emphasis is placed on honesty, values, self-discipline, physical fitness and preparing students to transition to high school.
Elective classes include all Center for the Arts courses, PE, Health, Junior Leadership, AVID, Certified Web Associate, Robotics and Coding, Computer Applications, Yearbook, TV Prodution, and Agriculture.
Gifted courses are available in all content areas: ELA, Social Studies, and Science. Math placement is based on FSA scores.
