AVID is a college readiness system that supports students that have a strong desire to go to college. In AVID, students are given the support they need to achieve success in a rigorous course of study that is appropriate to the student’s abilities. Students are required to maintain an organized binder and take Cornell notes in every class. They are also encouraged to maintain a “C” average or better in all of their classes. Tutors are in the AVID elective during tutorials to facilitate collaborative learning groups to help students focus on developing higher-level thinking and questioning skills and have a better understanding of their academic coursework. Students attend fieldtrips to college campuses, participate in community service activities, and are involved in school-wide activities. They also increase their ability for self-advocacy and develop skills that foster positive peer relationships through teambuilding activities.
Students who wish to enroll in AVID must submit an application and participate in an interview process to be accepted into this elective course. Accepted students will recieve the year-long AVID elective.
