Candace Cohowcz,
  Music Director

Ms. Candace Cohowcz holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education and Instrumental Performance from the Bower School of Music at Florida Gulf Coast University. Her accolades and professional experiences include playing at the Summer Music Festival in Hungary 2018, being an active Clarinetist with the Gulf Coast Symphony, and performing as a freelance musician and private lessons instructor. In addition, Ms. Cohowcz has also worked as a High School Marching Band Woodwind Technician, as the All County Adjudicator for middle and high school bands, a Summer Camp Woodwind Instructor, and as the Lee County All County Orchestra Coordinator. Ms. Cohowcz has been teaching band and orchestra for the past seven years and was elected the Lee County Music Teacher of the Year Award 2016-2017. Under Ms. Cohowcz's instruction, many Oak Hammock students have gone from a beginning instrument user to receiving excellent and superior ratings in county- and state-wide events.

Band and Orchestra Programs consist of three ensemble levels: Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced. Students focus on fundamentals of instrumental technique, music theory and music reading.

Musicians at OHMS the have opportunity to audition for All County, All State and to participate in Solo & Ensemble Festival. The Band and Orchestra programs perform in a range of venues including the Hammond Miracle Baseball Stadium, The SWFL International Airport and the Lee County School District. In addition, students have the opportunity to be members in the OHMS Symphony Orchestra (combining both band and orchestra students) and the OHMS Chamber Strings.
